When Cortland was incorporated as a village in 1853, its population was mainly transplanted New Englanders and Irish immigrants, and it encompassed territory 1 mile from east to west. Photographs from the archives of the Cortland County Historical Society illustrate how life was lived in Cortland before the 21st century.

Cortland Memories

I am amazed at the change in a small town. I was just a child that lived in Cortland until the early-middle 60's. I stay in touch with classmates. This little book of memories is just what I needed.

This book is a wonderful look into my hometown. Only wish it could have been much bigger. If you are interested in the history of Cortland, NY, this is the book for you!
