Very comprehensive story; a must for film buffs!

Wonderful book on the almost forgotten Fox Film studio before
Darryl Zanuck took over and turned it into 20th Century Fox.
I was amazed at the extensive research the author put into this book.
All of the Fox films are listed at the end with the stars and a brief
synopsis. Many nice, rare photos are included.

Excellent research

I purchased this volume hoping to find valuable information on one of the most neglected American studios. That is, much had been written on its subsequent 20th Ceuntury-Fox Film Corp., but a big gap laid on its predecessor, the Fox Film Corp. Therefore, this volume successfully manages to cover the gap and, in that sense, the book surely is a good buy.

However, the reason why I am not giving it a 5-star rating lays in its filmography: well-researched as it is, one wonders why it only covers its feature films, thus neglecting the short films made under the aegis of the Fox Studio. Undoubtedly, it must have been a matter of space limitations, but it is quite regretful, and one cannot help but to think of it as a missed chance of having a complete companion to the Fox Film Corporation.

As it is, it is certainly a must-have if one is interested in silent film history, though lacking in terms of documentation.

Collisions are Inevitable

We all have times in our walk with God when our desires collide with God's will for our lives. Dailey provides insight for the reader to learn from these experiences. What seems like a roadblock, may be directing you toward God's plan, which is always better than our own dreams. The author challenged me to view life's circumstances through the wide lens of God's grace, rather than the limited focus of my own understanding. Collisions will happen. It's how we respond that makes all the difference.

Nice State Fair History

Having been born and raised in Sacramento where the California State Fair has been located for most of it's life I was really glad to to purchase this book. It gives a complete history from the beginning of its existance up to modern times. There was a lot of information I hadn't been aware of prior to reading this book. Lot's of pictures to go along with the text. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of the California State Fair.

Regrettably this is not a history of the State Fair - it is a series of briefly annotated photographs. If you need to know more about the history and social-political atmosphere surrounding the fairs you'll have to look elsewhere, or write your own book! Seriously, the introduction is great but that's pretty much all you get.

David Wragg has published several highly praised books on railway history, and he produced a textbook for the old Chartered Institute of Transport. He has also written on railways for the Sunday Telegraph, The Spectator, The Scotsman, and the Yorkshire Post. His Wartime on the Railways was reviewed by Rail as 'very readable' and by Railways Illustrated as 'as a fascinating insight and also an important record', and Railways Illustrated chose his Southern Railway Handbook as 'Book of the Month'. One of his most recent publications is The Historical Dictionary of Railways in the British Isles. He is also well known as a writer of military history and provide the British, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand material for ON SEAS CONTESTED - THE SEVEN GREAT NAVIES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR, published in 2010 by the Naval Institute Press in the United States and which won the Stonebooks award for "The Best Non-Fiction book on World War II" to have been published that year.'

Good but not good enough

Overall this is a well presented and written book. But, it has many drawbacks including a lack of maps, tables, national insignia, and an index. The photographic content is limited 24 pages that are in black and white. This hardly does the subject matter justice, as many photos of current world air power can be found on the internet and in the many monthly publications. The air arms are listed in alphabetical order and includes a brief description of the history of each organization. The current strength is lumped into a paragraph at the end of each section and could use some clarification and elaboration. The specific bases and squadrons are not listed. This book also contains many omissions and errors. Most surprisingly the section with the most astonishing errors is on the United States. Several aircraft types are listed here as being in service that have already been retired from the U.S. military. These include the C-141, F-117, F-14, and T-37. The section on the U.S. army states that the RAH-66 has entered service, when it is well known that the program was cancelled in 2004. The huey is listed as still being in use in the hundreds when the army has only a handful left and has replaced many of the with the Lakota. The E-6 is incorrectly listed as a variant of the A-6 Intruder. Russia is listed as having 300 Mi-28N helicopters when only a handful are known to be in service. Saudia Arabia's acquisition of the Eurofighter Typhoon is not listed. Israel retired it's bell 212s some time ago. Paraguay did not actually recieve F-5s. The NH-90 and Tiger helicopters are indeed entering service but not yet in the numbers listed in some places. In other places the information does appear to be accurate and relatively up to date. In spite of its many faults, the book does provide a resonable overview of the state of world air power. The photos that are provided are of good quality. Hopefully a revised edition will be available in the near future with the necessary corrections. This book is a good start but more can be said and done here especially for the price.

Far too many errors to be taken seriously......

This book is a neat guide to the air arms of the world, but at its price, contains far too many errors to be taken seriously. If the entries of major air forces like the USAF are riddled with errors, then what about the details of smaller countries ?

A better choice would be a copy of "MODERN MILITARY AIRPOWER: 1990-Present" written by Thomas Newdick and published by Amber Books.

Once I started reading the history and looking at the pictures some brought back memories others I was shocked and amazed. I sat down with family and friends and we all laughed and werent in awe over the history and changes of Flushing. Thank you Jason Antos. Quality time with family members and friends enjoying your book. Amazing. Thank you for the memories and such a history of things we didn't even know about Flushing. A book to be enjoyed by all.

Great story, interesting characters

I, like the first reviewer, am hoping that T. Zahn will write a third novel in this series. The end of the Backlash mission leaves you wondering what will happen to the Blackcollars - will they ever free the Earth from alien domination? What really happened to the Blackcollars hidden under the mountain? Will the aliens find a way to counter the Backlash drug? Will Caine ever become a Blackcollar?
This sequel was full of interesting plot twists, great characters, good action: The storyline deserves more than being forgotten and out of print.

A brilliant sequel and a must-buy

It is remarkable that there are no other reviews for this book because it is one of the best of its genre i`ve ever read! The story is about a group of elite-warriors called blackcollars (already known from the first book)who set out to search the drug backlash, which was lost during the war against a insectoid alien race. Only backlash gives the blackcollars their improved strenght, reflexes and senses. Without it, the first generation of blackcollars will also be the last... Everyone who loved Admiral Thrawn`s cunning plans will read this book in one night.

Fast-paced story line with engaging characters. Lots of mental "switching" involved, but it really held my interest and I stayed up all night reading it. The author moved on to the more lucrative Star Wars universe, but the Blackcollar and Cobra series were top-notch.
