Copy and pasting more of plagiarism

This book is garbage written by a public servant of Hagerstown, I would definitely not recommend anyone to buy this book written by a career public servant that is more of parasite towards people of Hagerstown, we have seen his public (non)services, idiotic city codes with ridiculous rules and as a citizen of Hagerstown, let me tell you that you shouldn't support such author. Almost all image of the book are taken from other historically well written text books, Stephen's book is more of copy and pasting of other author's work. Those that given the high rating on this book is certainly by the author himself.

Like Looking at A Family Album

I bought this book because it was sited as a source of information about an ancestor who served on the USS Cumberland that was the first ship sunk by the CSA Ironside at the battle of Hampton Roads. There was a picture of him in it and many other old photographs of Hagerstown and the surrounding area during the civil war and after. It is always interesting to see from whence I sprung and how it looked before I came along. There are so many pictures and if that were all it would be well worth it's purchase. I will pass it on as a birthday gift for my brother in a few days.

Rare Photos and Rich Local History

Karry has an axe to grind. This is an excellent book. I contributed to it. The author contacted me for permission to use unpublished materials in the book that belong to my family. So you will find some rare imagery here, he did his research. And besides, does Hagerstown really come to mind when people are first asked what they know about the American Civil War ? Probably not. This book brings to light the significant role the town played in the war.

I never knew statistics would be fun to learn!

For thirty years I have struggled with math and I finally passed my algebra classes then I had to take a statistics course in order for me to move forward in pursuit of achieving my goal to go to a four year university and thanks to this book and a wonderful instructor, I m FINALLY going to CSUN!!!!!! It's interesting when I try to share with my friends and family they don't want to approach the subject, but my boyfriend gets an idea of what I am talking about when I discuss with him some of the things I share with him. I wish my family wouldn't run and hide and not panic and just relax and listen without panicking. Believe me, it was a challenge and I managed to get a "B" in my class!!!!!! Who would have thought, me getting a "B" in statistics?!!!!!!!
Have an open mind when you read and listen to what is being taught to you, don't panic, relax and listen very carefully and don't say I can't do it; If I can do it (someone who's struggle with math for years and now made it) you can do it! Oh one more thing, take good notes from your instructor!

Stats review

I requested this book as it was required for my doctoral work towards the Doctor of Nurse Practice completion. It will prepare me well for the quantitative and qualitave review of statistical significance necessary for evidence-based medicine literature reviewed and personally written. I also believe that this text will weave into clinical practice a better understanding of the scientific data found in today's literature. It will give the reader the conceptual anaysis and skills to accurately choose those articles of inclusion and exclusion for today's valuable literature searches. The final otcome of my coursework will be the completed Capstone project containing such valuable researched literature.

I bought this book because I required it for doing my PhD. For the most part I found it easy to understand and it helped me in interpreting some of the questions posed in my homework and exams. It is fairy comprehensive and covers most of the subject area I require for the next four years.

Great Pictorial Book about Filipinos in San Francisco

So as of now, I'm using this book for my Asian American Studies class at San Francisco State University and it gives a good visual history of what life was like for Filipinos in San Francisco from the early 20th century to today.

It's quite an interesting book for anyone who is interesting about the history of Filipinos in California, especially if you're interested about Filipino history. Can't say anything else other than simply getting the book, it's a worthy buy.

About the Author

Christine Leland is a Professor in the Department of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education in the Indiana University School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. She teaches courses in psycholinguistics, language education, children’s literature, reading methods, and critical literacy. Her book Creating Critical Classrooms (coauthored with Lewison and Harste, 2008) articulates a theory of critical literacy instruction and provides demonstrations of how critical practices can be enacted in elementary and middle school classrooms. Her interest in issues concerning the education of urban children, critical literacy and teacher education are reflected in her numerous journal articles and presentations. Her international work includes partnerships with universities in Kenya, Indonesia, and China. She has been recognized for teaching excellence a number of times, most recently in 2008 when she received the Frederic Bachman Lieber Memorial Award. This is a system-wide award that honors one faculty member each year from across Indiana University’s eight campuses.

Mitzi Lewison is a Professor in the department of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education at Indiana University. She teaches literacy methods courses in the elementary teacher education program, master’s level literacy and children’s literature courses, and doctoral seminars on issues in language education and critical literacy. Her current research focuses on investigating the problems and potential of using social justice curricula in elementary, middle, and college language classrooms. She is a three-time recipient of the Trustee’s Teaching Award in the School of Education. She has been the English Director of three projects in Afghanistan that were designed to help rebuild teacher education programs at 18 Afghan Universities and to start a master’s degree TESOL program. She is lead author of the book Creating Critical Classrooms: Reading and Writing with and Edge.

Jerome Harste is Professor Emeritus of Indiana University’s Department of Language, Literacy, and Culture where he held the distinction of being the first Armstrong Professor in Teacher Education. Jerry, as he is known to his friends, taught children’s literature, authored and published children’s books, and has been the president of several professional organization, including the National Council of Teachers of English. He sees himself as a specialist in the areas of teaching reading and writing, multiple ways of knowing, inquiry-based education, critical literacy, and curriculum.

Love this book!

It is not often that I have said that I enjoyed reading a textbook for school! This is an exception to that theory. This book is very well organized, to the point and gives many great ideas for teachers and parents alike!!
It doesn't bog you down with a lot of theory and thoughts that are hard to understand.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who either teaches reading, works in an educational environment or is a parent trying to help their child improve their love of reading !

A book every teacher (and parent) should read....step by step it covers the process whereby we learn to think and objectively consider what we read. This book helps you learn to read in a way that is far more active and less passive. I found that it has also helped me retain what I learn and consider what I read. I wish I had learned these skills a long time ago.

Good little anecdote but not really worth a buck

This is Charles Stross writing as Charles Stross, so don't expect a sci-fi piece. Instrad you are buying an anecdote from a conference Stross went to and while interesting (Stross does have a good turn of phrase, no doubt about that) it is not really worth the price.

To be homest, it's not much more than a long blog entry - I'm somewhat kidding that the list of Stross' other books at the end is almost as long as the anecdote itself, but you get the idea.

Also, reading this won't give you much idea of how Stross writes his novels, so if you are expecting a "Stross Primer" to help decide about buying one of his novels it is not going to help.

So I'm conflicted because I like Stross as an author but I can't really recommend that you buy this particular item.

A very tight, quick short story.

I kind of miss the heyday of science fiction and fantasy magazines: stories like these thrived in that kind of environment. Stross wrote something where it's just a little bit hard to figure out which parts are true and which parts are made-up, which is the idea.

Plus, it mentions chlorine triflouride, which is a fascinatingly terrifying compound that you should really, really, really stay away from.

Good Read

This was a fun read and appealed to my inner conspiracy theorist. Not to give too much away, it takes the idea of getting your opponent to do what you want by giving him misinformation and the unintended consequences that ensue. I'd recommend it.

Being a local to this area, I drive by these sites during the coarse of my week. The information provided was also very interesting and tied in well with the pictures . About the Author
Julian Thompson served in the Royal Marines for 34 years, retiring as Major General. He commanded 3 Commando Brigade, which carried out the initial landings in the Falklands conflict and fought most of the subsequent land battles. He is now visiting professor in the department of war studies, King's College, London and is the author of the critically acclaimed The Imperial War Museum Book of the War in Burma 1942-1945.

You thought you knew our generals and our allies?

This history of "the forgotten army" in Burma is a side we've heard little about, and the info about Generalissimy and Madame Chiang Kai-Shek alone is an eye-opener, to say the least. Joe Stilwell deserves more appreciation, while Claire Chennault and others are not goig to look so model-perfect to those who read this history. Treachery enough to go around, with political moves by superior officers leaving more men to die in several armies. Grim reading that will help set the record straight. Wish this book were in-print, but glad it's on Kindle.

Very interesting and insightful book

Oral histories can be tough to get through; they sometimes lose the timeline and flowing narrative and people are often critical of that fact. Thompson's book is not one of those. I found it remarkably easy to follow and the harrowing individual stories by those in the heat of battle are remarkable. A very interesting read and documenting these soldiers' experiences is both immensely valuable and goes some little way in honouring their great sacrifice. For without books such as these, and us reading them, these accounts might be lost - and that would be unforgivable.

This book is one of the best Military history books I have read. By providing the soldiers (of all ranks) the chance to say what they thought we get a rounded view of the difficulties they faced. I would like to have seen more excerpts from Japanese soldiers for more balance.

About the Author
Patricia Haesly Worthington is currently the curator of the El Paso County Historical Society, which houses a large photographic collection of the Mexican Revolution. Worthington also edits Password, the society’s academic journal, and is a graduate of Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin. She has published several historical articles and is president of her own historical and natural history research company. The El Paso County Historical Society is the largest local historical society in Texas, and it has extensive holdings about early El Paso.

Real Life "Wild Bunch" Photos of the Mexican Revolution

This is a spectacularly informative and fun picture book of the Mexican Revolution of the early 20th Century, played out across the Rio Grande/ Rio Bravo del Norte forming the US and Mexico border between El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. The story is told in over 200 photographs that directly call to mind "The Wild Bunch," showing the same mix of desert fighting, brand-new biplanes and armored cars, American troopers, Mexican federales and revolutionists that is typical of the period and the Peckinpah film. Mexican insurrectionists in tall-crowned sombreros intermingle with cavalry troops from Fort Bliss, next to El Paso. You see snipers working from behind adobe walls; firing squads of both sides in action; each of the long line of generals and statesmen who became president only to be assassinated; Pancho Villa in his vainglorious poses; railcars full of paisanos rolling into Juarez to fight for liberty. This photo grouping was carefully collected - it is extremely successful in providing texture for the Revolution. The minimal text would benefit from the addition of dates for some of the key events, and a timeline or outline of the Revolution to provide more context for the incredibly real, present and immediate photos.

"Classic" Regency

Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind was reminiscent of the "classic" Regency romances that I grew up with. A delightful comedy of errors, filled with sparkle and wit. I read the bulk of this novel during a flight from Arizona to Utah, and literally fell into a giggling fit during one section of this book. Thankfully, the flight wasn't full and the seat next to me was empty, so I didn't have to explain my embarrassing outburst. A book that literally makes me laugh out loud is rare these days. Brava, Ms Ashworth! I look forward to her next Regency!

Miss Delacourt Spoke Her Mind, Now It's My Turn!

Sir Anthony is cajoled by his grandmother to escort young, beautiful Ginny Delacourt to the country, where they will check on the dowager's prize roses. However, they are accosted on the highway, and are rescued by the Barringtons (with whom they are already acquainted) who live nearby. Due to a quarantine at the house of this well-to-do family, Sir Anthony and Ginny are forced to spend a great deal of time together, and the sparks fly.

Throw in the hilarious, self-affected, but good-hearted Lucinda (Mr. and Mrs. Barrington's eligible daughter), and the handsome-but-not-a-whole-lot-upstairs Lord Avery (who fell victim to the quarantine while visiting), and shenanigans with plenty of intrigue are around every corner!

Sir Anthony is the perfect balance between cad and gentleman, while Miss Delacourt is a sweet, strong, intelligent young woman who can stand on her own two feet without being brash.

This book is a rare gem. It's difficult to find a clean romance that is not only wholesome, but is also fascinating, hilarious, and well-written. I laughed out loud several times while reading, which is not a common occurrence for me.

Ms. Ashworth is a talented writer, and gives all her supporting characters such personality and presence that they are as memorable as her main characters. I enjoyed this read thoroughly, and am eagerly anticipating Heidi's next book. If you love regency romance or are a fan of romance of any sort, I highly recommend Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind!

Refreshing Romantic Comedy

I was excited to read this book but wasn't expecting it to be so funny. The characters are so well developed I am already hoping for a sequel and I just finished this two days ago. Definitely one of the best books I've read in years.
