About the Author
Sharon Ritenour Stevens is the associate editor of the multivolume documentary edition The Papers of George Catlett Marshall, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. A 20th-century historian, Stevens specializes in the era of George C. Marshall and the early years of the U.S. WomenÂ’s Army Corps. She edited volume 9 of Proceedings of the Rockbridge Historical Society. Alice Trump Williams taught mathematics at Lexington High School, Southern Seminary Junior College, and James Madison University before serving as a research fellow at University College, Oxford. She studied administration at the University of Virginia and was director of the Rockbridge Historical Society for eight years before retiring in 2002.

Terrific views of the home of VMI and W&L

There are some terrific pictures of this charming little town in Virginia that is home to both Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute.
George Marshall went to school here and Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson both lived her.

great history of a great little town

Lexington is Brigadoon. It's like stepping back into the 50's. People are polite and friendly. The town and the surrounding mountains are beautiful. This book does a nice job of capturing the town's past.

This is a highly authoritative, well organized, and interesting story of Lexington, an old town with a wealth of history especially surrounding the Civil War to the Marshall Plan.
