Thanks to exquisite images from the Davis Hillmer Collection at the Detroit Historical Museum, the Manning Brothers Historical Collection, and the Central Business District Foundation, Michael Hauser and Marianne Weldon once again provide readers with revered views of the famous department store so many Detroiters grew up with. Hauser is marketing manager for Michigan Opera Theatre and continues to promote the legacy of Hudson’s through an ongoing series of lectures and exhibits. Weldon is the collections manager for art and artifacts at Bryn Mawr College.

Oh, the fine memories of a great store

This is a sequel to Hudson's: Detroit's Legendary Department Store. Both are well worth the expense if you have great memories of old Detroit. A shopping trip downtown meant going to the J. L. Hudson department store. It was the largest store in the world, and dominated Detroit's merchant district along Woodward avenue.
The photos in this volume bring back a flood of fond memories of dressing up and spending the day downtown for that well-planned shopping spree.
If you remember Hudson's. Get this book!
If you shed a tear when the "Big Red Store" of retailing met its demise. Get this book!

The Good Old Days

I miss the old days when my Mom would take my sisters and I downtown to Hudson's. What a shame that this beautiful building was torn down. My, how times have changed. I loved the photos in this book. This is one of several that I have purchased, as I just loved the old Detroit. It is so sad that everything has fallen apart. Thank you to the authors of this book, and everyone who pitched in the pictures!
