From 250 to 150 B.C., the Adena people constructed a burial mound by moving 60,000 tons of earth. The resulting formation, the largest conical burial mound in the country, is located in the middle of the namesake town of Moundsville, West Virginia. Although the Grave Creek Mound, as it is now called, attracts spectators from miles around and is the showpiece of the locals, it is not the only noteworthy feature of the town. Fokker Aircraft Factory, the Fostoria Glass Company, United States Stamping Company, and the Marx Toy Company were all located in Moundsville and nearby Glen Dale, and many of the employees were town residents. The area is also home to the old West Virginia Penitentiary, which is now a national historical landmark, and the Daily Echo, a country newspaper that has been the voice of the community for more than 100 years. The county seat of Marshall County, Moundsville is a Southern town immersed in history and full of people dedicated to its preservation.

Once known only as "Siding 45," Glasgow, Montana, was named by a railroad clerk's random finger poke on a spinning globe in 1887. Faithful to their pioneer legacy, the people of the "Hi-Line" have more recently successfully refocused on long-established agriculture and developing tourism to continue the historic saga of northeast Montana.

there are some good suggestions for researchj in the book but it appears to me that being in Belfast and having the opportunity of using Proni this would be excellent, not so good for long distance work

A Great Resource

Thu book is a great resource for beginner and advanced genealogists alike. The author provides some history and associated documents, and where they can be found. There are lots of little known sources available at PRONI, and elsewhere, that are of great value to researchers. I bookmarked many pages with reference to sources that I never knew existed. If you're searching for Northern Ireland ancestors, this book is well worth the read!

The Sebring family came from the Netherlands and moved to Pennsylvania. George E. and Elizabeth Larkins Sebring eventually settled in East Liverpool, where they ran a grocery business and lived with their ten children. The Sebrings then decided to find property and build a pottery town, as they had been involved in potteries in East Liverpool and East Palestine. They settled on 200 acres of farmland near the Mahoning River, with the railroad running through the property. After a great deal of work in starting the new town, the Articles of Incorporation were filed in 1899. Potteries and homes were constructed, and Sebring became a flourishing town, at one point considered the pottery center of the world.

I love books in this series.

As a history buff I am always interested in books of this nature that cover an area where I have lived or where I have had family. Some of my mother's people lived in Sebring and this book brought back memories. Most of the buildings are gone now that I knew as a child when I visited the area. It still brings back pleasant memories of a beloved aunt and grandmother. The train station still stands where I had a grandfather who was a telegrapher for Western Union. Thought its station pictures are good, I suspect they would have loved to have had the use of one I have of the staff inside the station itself. This grandfather died before I was born, however his pictures and letters have kept him alive for me.

Great History of Sebring!

My great-grandfather was Ellsworth (E.H.) Sebring, but my father never told me much about his mother's family. What a joy it was to find this book, with it's great history and many pictures! I'm told that my father learned to play billards on the pool table in Ellsworth's beautiful home. I enjoyed discovering a heritage that I didn't know I had. Although the city has changed since the peak of the pottery making days, I found it interesting to visit, and reading Mr. Bara's book made it a lot more personal.

I live next to this town and my grandfather worked 50 years in the potteries of Sebring, OH. I recognize alot of the pictures and of course he knows all of them. We enjoyed talking about the pictures and I learned alot about how pottery used to be manufactured. In fact one of the guys on the front looks like my grand father. Interesting to read about how thw town used to be.

Place from the past

I was excited to find this book. I was there once in the 70's for a very enjoyable evening. It was a wonderful place with a lot of atmosphere. My husband grew up in the neighborhood and his father worked part time there in the late 50's. We have a picture of him behind the concession stand. I was hoping to see more pictures of the crowds, workers and performers in action. It was still very enjoyable to read.

About the Author
John Knoerle was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1949 and migrated to California with his family in the 1960s. He has worked as a stand-up comic, a voiceover actor, and a radio reporter. Knoerle revisits and reinvigorates the spy thriller genre

By mastering the art of less is more, John Knoerle strings compelling words into kinetic sentences that have readers flipping pages late into the night.

In the Proxy Assassin, readers are hooked from the get-go -- from the moment you jump out of a plane along with the main character, Hal Schroeder, and parachute into a domino effect of action and espionage that hardly relents for 280-pages.

There so much here that feels familiar, yet never formulaic. Knoerle leans on the conventions of the genre before turning them onto their side, en route flipping them upside down before our eyes and much to our delight. That's what he does so well and it's what makes you anxious to keep reading.

True to the genre, the plot is filled countless twist and turns, but nothing ever feels forced. In fact, the well-crafted story manipulates the reader and had this reader hanging on tight -- literally. I often found myself clutching the device I was reading the book on with white knuckles. How often can you say that about a book?

With the Proxy Assassin -- the third book in a trilogy -- John Knoerle revisits and reinvigorates the spy thriller genre. If that sounds at all appealing to you, I recommend starting at the beginning with the first book in the trilogy to fully enjoy a well-crafted ride.

Captivating!

I am always glad when I come across a great new author, John Knoerle is my most recent find. Plus, we grew up I the same area which is always cool. A great novel has twists, deception and action, The Proxy Assassin is no exception. While the book is quite long I always found myself getting caught up in the plot every time I opened it. The character's alone make this book great, not to mention the well planned plot. Any book with a character named "Wild Bill" is sure to be packed to the brim with action, plus a little humor. I wish I had started with the first book, but even on its own this third part to the trilogy is captivating.

Great Conclusion

I just got done reading this one and now I can finally start breathing again. This book really hooks you in right from the very beginning and it fast paced plot full of twists and turns and is never predictable. I loved the characters, Hal Schroeder is not your typical protagonist in a spy novel, He has a lot more depth and feels much more human. The writing it top class as everything that John Knoerle does is. This really is a fantastic and satisfying conclusion to a great series, If you haven't already I seriously recommend you check out this series.

Very organized and easy to understand. This book was required for a kinesiology class I took, but it explains the material in a way that is easy for anyone to understand and it does a great job of highlighting the important points in each section.

This book leads the reader from the known to the to-be-known

Successful management today does not consist in re-creating the conditions under which we thrived in the past -- a past even greater than the Atlantean one! To create success for oneself, one's organisation, community or nation, one needs to identify the primary forces that work in today's turbulent environment: the drivers of change in the private and public market place as well as within the workplaces. That, precisely, is what After Atlantis is about.
In a sense, After Atlantis has not invented anything new. It is not old wine in a new bottle, either. The book leads the reader from the known to the to-be-known: Acknowledging and re-establishing the well-known fact that no one off-the-shelf solution can meet the challenges of organisations today, the authors seem to have succeeded in extracting a synergistic approach from the various disparate approaches that most of us are already familiar with. The book, however, does not (and it does not want to) offer a fish, but provides the wherewithal to fish in troubled waters.
Starting with a clarification of the meaning of turbulence, After Atlantis proceeds to identify the basic drivers of change and turbulence and show how to set about managing them through the four phases of discontinuous innovation, continuous improvement, breakthrough improvement and another discontinuous innovation. These phases are dealt with in good detail.
The recommendations of After Atlantis (for working, managing and leading in turbulent times) are extracted from the authors' own research of field-tested practices, which are well recounted in the book. The extracted process has been christened as The Shared Learning Process, which subsumes the approaches of Search Conference, Participative Design and TQM.
Besides presenting a concise and practice-based process, the book also provides a tested architecture with which one can understand how to launch and sustain a quality management and continuous improvement process in an organisation. The logic of where, when and how to start is a specialty of this even otherwise special book.

everything you need for class/wards/study supplementation. Tables are very logical and succinct. True to Harrison's form, it's an amazing resource

Simpler size, easier to carry. Liked the color coded indexes. Very useful that the Treatment indications are in yellow boxes, distinguishing it from the rest of the text.
